The Story of a Gideon New Testament

Recently Janice and I moved to a new location - as we packed up the house we had been living in, we discovered a well worn little silver new testament with a blue metallic Gideon symbol on the front cover.  Inside the front cover was this writing:

"From Larry after I became a Christian
Janice Pearson
RR#1
Uxbridge, Ontario,
Lot 14, Concession 4, Scott Township
1972"

On the back cover is an area where Janice recorded her decision to become a Christian.  It is dated 05 June 1972.  Dad had provided me with that Silver and Blue 'Nurses Edition' New Testament to give to a young woman who wanted to become a nurse.

Janice and I have been married now for more than 35 years.  In fact on the 24th of January we celebrated a decision Janice made 36 years ago.  It was that cold night, in a snow drift, on the 6th concession, overlooking a  sleepy little town in a valley, by what is now the Uxbridge Historical Society property, that Janice said she would marry me.  Did one little Gideon New Testament and a decision to become a Christian have anything to do with the love and commitment that has sustained us?  Did Dad's work with the Gideon's have an influence on us choosing each other as life partners?  You be the judge.

We thank God for each other and for Dad's commitment to distributing bibles and new testaments to people in this area through his work with the Gideons.  Here's a song Dad often asked me sing when I accompanied him on his summer preaching forays to little churches and cemeteries.

Listen to the Gaither Vocal Band sing "He touched Me"
